savage .308

2016/7/22 9:18:28

Question
I have a savage striker .308 pistol for hunting. I would like to put a butt stock on it, but don't know if it can be done or not. If so, where and how would I get one. And how hard is it to modify.

Answer
Jason,

There are two issues that pertain to your question:

1) The factory stock cannot be easily modified; the barreled action would have to be put into a new stock. As there are no aftermarket stocks for this, you would have to have one made for you by a gunsmith.

2) You can only affix a shoulder stock to that gun if you are willing to register the it as a Class III weapon (same category as fully automatic weapons) under NFA rules. The Striker has a 14" barrel. Legal limit for rifle barrels is 16". You'd have to contact the ATF, pay your $200 tax stamp, and comply with a host of other rules that they will tell you about before obtaining permission to have it done.
