Question
Hello,
I'm trying to find a Belgium Browning 22L Rifle for my husband for Christmas. His Dad had one and he always wanted it. I know the model number (or part of the number) listed on the gun was 1T792. Not sure if that is a complete number or not. I have read that there are 3 different grades, but don't know which grade this one was. Can you advise where I may begin to find one? I appreciate any advice!
Answer
Donna,
There were three different grades in the .22 takedown. Grade I, II & III. The standard gradeI has a blued recevier with a minimal amount of engraving. The Grade II has a greyed receiver with prarie dog game scene engraved on the receiver and an upgrade in wood. The Grade III's have a greyed receiver with a considerable amount of engraving, a dog flushing ducks, a dog with a duck in its mouth etc.
The Grade I in MINT condition is going to run about $800-$900. The Grade II's about $1495-$1700. The Grade III's $3200-$3500. Price will fluctuate according to who engraved the rifles, wood grain, box or no box, year of manufacture. The early rifles were the wheelsight variations and they were made from 1956-1960 and they are a little more sought after by collectors.
As far as finding one.... Gunsamerica.com, Gunbroker.com, Auctionarms.com are websites to look at, but be careful, a few lack ethics in selling. Give me a call and I will try to recommend a few folks I know are very reputable.
