Sweet Sixteen

Question
Jim,
I was given my Dads Browning Sweet 16 by my Mom for Christmas.
The number under the receiver is A 5619 (with the numbers under the letter.) The name "Sweet Sixteen" appears to be engraved. There are various markings on the barrel, stamped in 2 places are P180 and once C6592/. The letter A is stamped on the side of the barrel ring guide. I would rate the condition as "well used" but not abused.
I am not interested in selling the gun but would
like to know a "ball park" figure of it's value, when it was made and where I can find information on caring for the gun?
Thanks in advance,
Bill
Answer
Bill,
The Blue Book of Gun Values is a starting reference for value. For more information on the Auto 5 I would suggest looking at the Browning Auto 5 Shotguns book by H.M. Shirley and Anthony Vanderlinden. As far as caring for it.... keep it in a relatively dry area (less than 50% humidity) with a light coat of gun oil that can be found at any gun shop.
