9mm or .40 carbines

what are the maximum rages for these two firearms?

Pistol caliber carbines do not really have an effective range beyond that of a handgun, or not much more. You should consider them to be handguns on steroids. I would regard 75 yards to be about it. You could get hits at 100 yds, just as you could with a handgun, but as with a handgun, I wouldn't expect much effect.
