Bedside Gun Rack

2016/7/22 9:17:45

Question
Have you seen the bedside gun rack http://www.the-backup.com?  What do you think of the idea?

Answer
Al,

I've seen this and other things like it. Having done some drills in which people are woken up out of a sound sleep I can't say that I would encourage this sort of thing. If one needs to take a gun in hand, he had better be fully awake before doing so.

I think a much better solution is to have the gun somewhere close at hand but for which both feet have to be on the floor to access (preferably forcing the person to stand first).

A necessary compliment to this will be some kind of perimeter alarm (there are a lot of ways you can do this) that will cause an alert and give you time to get the gun. But waking up from a deep sleep and trying to access a gun because someone is right in your bedroom door is a recipe for disaster.
