first time buyer

Hi.  Do you think it worthwhile to approach purchasing a gun, if you know exactly what you want, like shopping for a wide-screen TV, that is, calling up and asking how much and going with the cheapest? I live in Southern California, the LA area.    Thanks,   -Jim S.

Speaking personally, when I am interested in making any kind of a purchase I do as much research on the item/s (firearm of otherwise) as is possible, locate at least three or four locations that sell it, compare their prices, service, knowledge, etc., and if one is substantially less money........ begin the negotiation process.

The best advise that I can give you however is don't just go with the "cheapest" (we like to say least expensive :-/ ) based upon price alone. What may be the least expensive in $$ may actually "cost" you more in the long run. The point being is that sometimes a slightly lower price does you little or no good if there is no support system there for you after the sale.

In the wonderful world of the net you should be able to do 90% of your "shopping" on line as to all the specifications of various firearms etc. Then talk with some knowledgeable individuals for additional input and advise. Its nice having knowledgeable customer service people around after the sale in the event that issues arise later.

Once you have a firearm in mind you can even check some of the web-based sites such as www.gunsamerica.com and www.gunbroker.com.
