Savage 10 FP

Question
Doug,
My Savage 10 FP has a firing pin issues. Sometimes it strikes the primer but the primer doesn't ignite. I believe that the firing pin is set correctly as it is adjustable in this bolt model. However, I did change the bolt face a year ago and realizes that the firing pin is also adjustable. I took the spring off to thoroughly clean it when I put the bolt face on. Now I realize that I didn't adjust the firing spring tension the same as it was originally. How can I properly adjust the firing pin tension correctly? The firing pin itself appears to be adjust just right. The ammo I use is OK since the misfires I had in the Savage shot just firing in the Remington 700.
Thanks for your help,
Jim
Answer
Jim,
While I am very familiar with the Savage 10FP, (nice rifle by the way...) I am not familiar with the adjustment process for the firing pin spring tension. Since the tolerances on these things can be pretty precise, I'd suggest you take it to a gunsmith in your area and let them reset it to factory specs. If you aren't sure who works on Savage guns in your area, go to:
www.savagearms.com
Check under customer support and give them a call. They may be able to help you with either info on where you can get it checked or give you more information on how to adjust. According to their website, they don't take email requests but will answer phone calls.
Hope this helps...good luck on getting your rifle back in a reliable state.
Cheers,
Doug
