Question
I just recieved Kmart o/u 12 ga. It says Boito on the gun. I read a few different opinions about the gun and was wondering if you could help?
Answer
Dawn,
It would be easy for me to just knock Boito and move on however, things are not always that easy and neither is this.
First of all you need to keep in mind that this gun was manufactured in Brazil and many of same receive harsh reviews do to where they were made and that they were intended to be of "utility grade" and perform as shooters and not "lookers".
In general this means that the wood may not be of high figure and limited polish on the steel prior to bluing. Also the actions are generally not as tight a tolerance as other higher priced guns. Also the trigger pull on these is often much higher than many shooters care for. The majority of the parts are stamped instead of machined.
These guns sold new for about $300 and if you compare that to other manufactures you'll find them (IE. Browning, Remington, SKB, etc.) selling for hundreds of dollars more.
This brings me to the main point I guess........ they are what they are, an average grade shotgun that will shoot when you want it to and will hold up a long time with at least average care.
As long as you know what it is and are satisfied with that, why worry about what others think anyway? If you are happy with it and it is functional, you have satisfied two main issues.
Although a Boito would not be my personal first choice that certainly does not mean that it is not ok for your purposes nor that there is anything really "wrong" with them as a whole.
I hope this helps and thanks for the question Dawn.
