Question
I have a CZ-75 88 series 9MM, semi-automatic. When I fire a loaded 16 round mag. at times it will miss-fire; with the hammer down, I pull the trigger and this weapon will fire similar to full auto. Is there a problem with the sear;sliding block; or what is going on? Can this problem be rectified? Is it a major surgery and the weapon worth fixing? Thanks for your input. Cal.
Answer
The CZ 75 is a great pistol. Without seeing the gun, it is impossible to diagnose what the problem is, particularly as there is not enough information in the description but I can guess.
It sounds like the sear/hammer engagement was not fit correctly or was played with. The angles need to be recut on the sear and hammer hooks, or if they have been really abused, your sear and/or hammer will need to be replaced.
I'm not sure what you mean by "major surgery." All handguns are pretty simple affairs, and any competent gunsmith can completely disassemble your gun in well under five minutes. Jigs and tools to cut the angels correctly are as staple in the industry.
If you're asking if its a job YOU can do personally, probably not. But a gunsmith should be able to fix it in short order. Depending on what has to be done, between $75 - $200. I'd get it done. You'll have to decide what the gun is worth to you, though.
