Question
QUESTION: Hi Sir,
I would like to ask your opinion and recommendation, I have here a rock island commander size pistol, and I change the recoil spring to wolf 16lbs. Is it okey if I will change it to 18.5lbs. I am at the range and shooting
once a week and a I am using FMJ major load and factory load. Thanks

ANSWER: The factory spec spring for a 5" gun is 16#.

The factory spec spring for a Commander sized gun is 18#.

I would stick with the factory spec springs.

QUESTION: Thanks, 18# is much harder to cock? This does mean much
recoil?

Answer
You will probably notice a difference in recoil, but the gun was designed for an 18# spring. If you use a spring that is two pounds lighter you will shorten the life of the frame of your gun.

Competitive shooters do this as a trade-off. To get the lighter recoil, they sacrifice the gun, knowing it won't last as long.
