Question
Hi Doug. I am not looking for a valuation but am trying to track information about a model 275 Noble .22 rifle and do not know where to go. Have you any advice? I understand it is an American manufacturer and sounds like it could be old - discontinued. I am in downunder New Zealand.
Answer
Barrie,
I'm happy to give you as much info as I can, but there is not too much to give. Noble Manufacturing Company, located in Haydenville, Massachusetts, was in the business of manufacturing a line of utility grade .22 caliber rifles and importing Spanish side by side shotguns. They were in business from 1953 to 1971.
Your gun, the model 275 should be a lever action with a tubular feed magazine. If there is no clearly visible serial number, it was manufactured prior to 1968.
Noble made mostly low cost guns for the mass market which sold reasonably well until they began to have quality control problems in the manufacturing process resulting in them going out of business in 1971.
The guns were utilitarian and not especially unique or attractive in terms of design. As a result, there is virtually no interest in collecting these guns and values reflect that lack of collecting interest. Most of the rifles out there seem to be in the $50 to $150 range depending on what they are and the condition they are in.
You probably won't find much in print about this company since there is no collectable market. I did several Google searches on a variety of terms relating to Noble Manufacturing and got very little info.
Not sure how much more I can tell you. Sounds like it might be a decent gun to shoot and have fun with, but probably not much more.
Hope this helps you out a bit...
All the best,
Doug
