Question
I have a winchester model 12, 16 Gauge serial #1390165 That I am trying to date and value. It is in good shape with the bluing wearing only where the pump slides. It has finger inlays carved into the butt(factory I believe) and a smooth barrel with mod choke. I would appreciate any info as I would like to sell or trade it for a 223 that I would get much more use out of.
Answer
Josh,
There were approximately 1,900,000 M12's sold over a 50+ year period with regular production ending in 1963. After 1963 the M12 was made in only special models by the Win. Custom Shop until 1979.
The gun was made in several different styles to include the following: Standard Grade, Featherweight, Riot Gun, Trench Gun, Skeet Grade, Trap Grade, Heavy Duck Gun, and Pigeon Grade. Naturally the value/s will vary depending upon model.
Your M12 was manufactured in 1952 and assuming it is a "Standard Grade", would have approximate retail value of $400 if in "good" condition. Keep in mind that you will probably be offered less on a trade or direct sale to a dealer.
Good luck and thanks for the question Josh.
