Question
Paul, I have a Browning sweet sixteen 16 Ga. handed down from my Dad. Serial #123627 Made in Belgium It has a poly choke on it and was probably bought sometimes in the '40,s. It was chambered for 2 916" shells. I would like to know how old it is. Not interested in selling it--it still shoots great.

The Auto-5 "Sweet Sixteen" was introduced in 1936.
The 2 9/16 chamber is also an indication of an early gun pre WWII.
There was the regular 16 gauge Auto 5 made prior to that.
Before firing double check the chamber lenght.
Most were expanded to 2 3/4 inches.
Its not safe to fire with modern ammo if was not extended.
Have it looked at by a gunsmith, they will check it for free in most cases.
The polychoke could be orginal or an after market addition.
While the chamber being checked get a written apprasial.
These guns are collectable.
