jim,i have a browning belgium bolt action rifle, cal.30-06, serial # 8L 47682.it also has a leupold scope serial # 255119.this rifle came with a naugahyde case, fleece lined.what can you tell me about them, including values.thanks john

Browning made three different grades of Bolt Actions back then. Prior to 1968, when your rifle was made, you could distinguish grade in the .30-06's by the serial number. In 1968 Browning changed the serial number letters to L on the .270 calibers and above to L, making it impossible to distinguish grade by serial number. Assuming you have a Safari Grade (blued model) no engraving on the receiver, the rifle in absolutely perfect condition it could bring $1300-$1400 without the case. The case you have probably has the naugahyde handle without any plastic on the handle making it an Airways brand case. The case in mint/perfect condition will bring $200. The scope?

The one thing to seriously think about with your rifle is whether it contains salt wood. The only way of knowing for sure is to test it with Silver Nitrate 1% solution. Many will tell you if it is salty the metal will show signs of pitting or rust. NOT ALWAYS TRUE! Hope this helps.
