Question
QUESTION: I AM MOVING FROM BALTIMORE ,MD TO WAKE COUNTY ,NC AND I OWN A .40 CAL. GLOCK 22 DO I NEED A PERMIT OR SOMETHING TO HAVE MY GUN WITH ME IN NC
ANSWER: When you buy a handgun in NC, you need either a handgun purchase permit from the Sheriff or a concealed carry permit. If you already legally own the gun, no permit is needed. While in your car, if you don't have a concealed carry permit, you should have the gun unloaded in the trunk or locked glovebox.
In order to carry the gun concealed, you need a concealed carry permit. If the gun is carried completely visible (such as in a holster without anything else covering it), then it can be carried without a permit.
Hope this helps!

QUESTION: is open carry met with hostility or open arms so to speak?also, what are some general guidelines for open carry?do I need to be only on my property or is ok anywhere but restricted places such as schools, ect. ok?
Answer
Since we now have concealed carry permits available, very few people carry openly (without a permit). Although it's legal, I don't know of anyone doing this except when on a hunting trip.
Open carry is legal in all non-restricted places. Open carry is a little tricky in a car, and I know of a few people who've gotten tickets in the past (before concealed carry) because the gun had slid under the seat, or under some papers on the seat.
It's best to just get the concealed carry permit, and you'll learn of the restricted places during the class. (It requires a class, which usually takes about 10 hours.)
Hope this helps!
