SigSauer P225

Question
QUESTION: First, thank you for your informative answers to my previous questions. I hope that my questions today are sufficiently general.
A limited-scope FFL here in eastern Idaho has a few SigSauer P225's for sale. He claims that they are surplus from the German police and have never been in use. The pistols appear to my untrained eye to be in new condition. The manuals are in German and a copy of the proof target is included. Are you familiar with any information that would validate the dealer's story?
My other more-or-less related question regards factory loads for 9 mm. Double Tap makes a cartridge in JHP 115 gr. that is rated at 1415 fps / 511 ftlbs muzzle. Are these specs within the capabilities of the "better" makes, e.g. SigSauer, Glock, S&W, etc.?
Thanks again
ANSWER: The story on the 225s sounds plausible. My local shop often has overseas police trade-ins of SIGs and HKs, often at very good prices. There are sometimes slight design differences from those intended for the American market, but can be a good buy.
I have never heard of Double Tap ammunition, but 1415 fps is extraordinarily fast for 9mm. You should be aware that certain companies make 9x19 ammunition that is for use ONLY in sub-machine guns. Getting hold of this ammunition and shooting it in handguns has destroyed more than a few handguns, Glocks and SIGs among them. Use caution.
---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------
QUESTION: Well, the dealer offered a few trial rounds with one of his P225's and I succumbed and bought one. :-) The tech specs in the manual include muzzle ratings of 1155 fps and 369 ftlbs. A bullet of about 124 grains yields these specs. This is useful, but I would still like to know the maximum pressure tolerance of the pistol. SigSauer USA did not respond to my request. Is there any other source?
The Double Tap cartridge is SAAMI +P, which I understand is a maximum average pressure of 38,500 psi.
I also ran across a reference that listed the CIP MAP at 39,200 psi for the 9mm Luger. Does this have any relationship to the P225 capabilities?
Thanks again.
Answer
I'm not near a resource now where I can check the SAAMI spec, but I believe that the spec for 9mm parabellum is 35 KPSI.
Muzzle velocity is a useful guide, but essentially irrelevant. A particular cartridge could generate muzzle velocities within the typical 1200 fps for the 9mm but at a much too high pressure.
Why get a gun that does not perform to the velocities you want it to? If you feel the need to push a 9mm bullet that fast, why not get a .357 SIG and stay within the the SAAMI parameters?
