QUESTION: What is the standard issue handgun for the FBI/ CIA? Once in the field are agents allowed to choose their handgun of choice? Thanks.

ANSWER: It has been a while since I've trained with anyone from either one of those agencies. The last fed I trained with was from the FMA program.

Back when I did, however, their standard issue was the Glock 22 or 23. Gun companies always vie for these contracts so that they can say "our gun is the gun of xyz federal agency." Recently I believe the FBI has adopted the SIG 226 and 228.

Agents may use only agency approved weapons while on duty. There is indication that in some areas agents are still carrying Glocks.

Regarding the CIA, I spoke with a friend who works for the agency. He would not say.

QUESTION: You seem very knowledgeable about the feds. I have a bachelors degree in political science and several years in the private sector and also with the fire department. How do you get accepted into the FBI and have the privilege to train at Quantico?

No, not really that knowledgeable. I have trained with some federal agents, and know several people who work for a number of the three letter agencies, mostly in the white collar sector. Most of my involvement with law enforcement is on a local level.

Regarding training at Qauntico if you mean at the FBI Academy, you抎 need to be accepted there to do that. Although the FBI as an agency has some of the most competent shooters of any LE agency, you can find the equal of their instruction in the private sector.
