Question
QUESTION: I just bought a Mossberg Maverick 88 12 gauge. I was wondering if I could shoot slugs through it as is. Not sure what choke it is. Can you please help?
ANSWER: You can but I would not recommend it if the choke is tighter than improved cylinder. It should have Accuchoke system of choke tubes.
A single modified choke come with gun.
Google mossberg 500 choke tubes and you find the available chokes.
If you want a slug barrel any Mossberg Model 88 or model 500
barrel will fit.

QUESTION: With a improved cylinder, How accurate is it. What would be the max yards? Where I deer hunt the coverage is very thick. A good shot clear shot is about 60 to 70 yards max.
Answer
If its a 28" smoothbore barrel 70 yards is about maxed out with a Foster style slug. 50 yards should be about 3 to 4 inch group.
A little better with Brenneke Slugs.
If you wish you can get a rifled choke tube you can use Saboted slugs.
