Inherited rifles from Dad

QUESTION: My Dad died in 1993 and until recently my Mom wouldn't part with his rifles. I've just received 3 of them and want to get some information for my personal insurance files. I really don't know much about these rifles, I am providing you with what I have gotten off the rifles.

1.  Browning 12ga Auto-5 with gold trigger - Serial # 72G17920

2.  Browing 22 long rifle - Serial # 1740T37

3.  Winchester 94-30 wcf - Serial # 1240973 W

I'm not interested in value - these are too sentimental to sell. Would just like the year of mfg. if you can help me out.

The 12 Ga was made in 1972 as evident by the 72 preceding the G in the serial number. Please check the 22's serial number. I suspect the serial number should read 1740T73. If it does, then the rifle was made in 1973. The 22 auto takedown did not come out under the Browning patent made by FN until 1956. If the serial number is indeed T37 then they probably mixed the two numbers up at the factory and it should have read T73. Hope this helps.

You might try the Winchester Collectors Association, assuming there is one. Another option is to look at the Blue Book of Gun Values or search your local bookstore for Winchester reference books. I do not follow the Winchesters. Hope this helps.
