Question
i have a belgium made 30-06 bolt action rifle. stock is dark red wood with oak leaves engraved in it. has 2 trigers. i would love to find out what it is. would love even more 2 find scope mounts for it. the person i got it from knew nothing about it? on the reciever it has a X with a star above it. below that a R with what looks like a crown above it. just below that it has P.V? 5 digit serial number starting with 11 no letters. "119XX" if you can help me it would be greatly appreciated. if not, thanks anyway. dave miller

Hi Dave.
It sounds like your rifle could be an early Browning or FN gun. I can't tell you for sure without seeing it. Check along the barrel, under the stock and forearm, under the butt plate, etc. to see if you can find any other engraving or markings which may indicate the manufacturer or model number. You can also visit some of the online auction sites and look through photos of similar guns until you find one which is a match. Here are the links:

If all else fails, take it to a local gunsmith or gun club and someone there should be able to identify it for you easily.
