Question
Every three month we have qualification with are weapons. During practice I shoot great. As soon as the insturtor say it time for qualifications I lose points back in the 15 yard kneeling position and 25 yard standing and kneeling. I need help in this area. By me not qualifing every three quarter I may lose my job. The instuctor tells me that I need to focus on something. Don pay so much attention to breathing. I think it is just nervous what should I being focusing on? Help
Answer
Denise,
I need more information. Can you tell me:
1) What exactly your qualification course consists of including what targets you use, what distances you shoot at, in what positions, how many rounds, and what score is needed.
2) A description of the problem, e.g. "At the longer distances I hit low and to the left" or whatever your problem may be. You don't have to diagnose it, just tell me where your hits are going.
3) Which is your dominant hand.
4) What gun are you qualifying with.
Marksmanship is a pretty simple endeavor, but simple does not necessarily mean easy. Playing the piano is a matter of "simply" having your fingers on the right keys at the right time. All marksmanship equations are solved by "front sight, consistent press," but how to achieve this changes with the gun in question.
Lastly, what locale you are in? Besides whatever help I can give you over the internet, I may have a colleague in your area who can help you.
