Question
I have Savage Arms Fox Model B side-by-side 12 guage, and i have a few questions that you can hopefully help me out with. First i am curious about how old it is. I think the seiral number is B895186, it was made in Westfield, mass. It had a 2 3/4 chamber. It has a fox enscribed on the bottom of the gun right in front of the trigger. On the side of the gun it says Fox B-SE series H. It only has one trigger even though it is a double barrel. The other thing is I am wondering what it is worth. It is in great shape, no rust, with only one small nick on the stock. Any info would really help. Thanks Kyle
Answer
Hello Kyle. Sorry it took so long to answer your question. This was a tuff one. I was not able to find an exact manufacture date. I can tell you that it was made between 1960 and 1988. A little history might be of interest to you. A.H.Fox began manufacturing his highly prized quality double in 1905 and continued with several high grades until 1930. Savage Arms Co.of Utica,NY. purchased the A.H.Fox Co.in 1930. Between 1930 through 1942 Savage Arms Co. discontinued all the Fox Doubles except the Series B.In 1959 Savage moved from Utica,NY. to Westfield, Mass. and continued there up to 1988. During this time frame Savage Arms dropped the A.H.Fox Model B and began the design of the utility grade hunting gun we know as the Savage Arms-Fox Model B-SE. The best I can tell is the series H was assigned to the single-trigger double. I located most of this information in The BLUE BOOK of GUN VALUES by S.P.Fjestad and others.
As far as the value of your shotgun, I compare on-line auctions. I found your exact model and description at GUNSAMERICA #905498924. From $500.00 to $800.00.
They are 'kickers'. Broke my nose on a 16ga. My son's on a 12 ga. Charles Gage.
