QUESTION: Hi i'm a senior at my high school, me and my group are working on Gun Violence. it's part of our senoir project and i' just want to know" What will happen to a stolen firearm?"

Thanks for your question.  My only problem in answering it is that it is a very broad question.  It's kind of like asking "what will happen tomorrow?".  There are so many possible answers that I cannot even begin to say what exactly would happen.

I can tell you what 'could' happen to a stolen firearm, but it would only be a short list of possibilities...

If a gun is stolen it could be:

1.  Pawned for cash
2.  Sold to a private party for cash
3.  Traded for drugs, sex or whatever else the thief could trade for
4.  Retained by the thief for use in committing additional crimes
5.  Disposed of by the criminal after using it in a crime
6.  Used in the commission of a crime and confiscated by police if the criminal is arrested
7.  Retained by the thief for their personal legal use.

The list could go on and on...

If you are asking what should a firearms owner do if his or her gun is stolen, that is a different list:

1.  Owners should always maintain the model and serial number information on every firearm they own.
2.  They should store those firearms securely to prevent unauthorized persons from gaining access to the firearms.
3.  Firearms should be stored either in a safe or using a gun lock to prevent the firearm from being easily loaded and fired should it fall into the hands of an unauthorized person.
4.  Ammo should be stored separate from the firearm to prevent unauthorized persons from converting the firearm to a firing condition and possibly discharging it.
5.  Firearms in vehicles should be out of sight or locked inside a case or the trunk to discourage theft.
6.  Any stolen firearms should be reported to the police immediately along with the model and serial number information.
7.  The police maintain a record of stolen firearms which may be used to eventually recover the firearm and return it to the original owner.  Please note that this is an extremely rare occurrence.

Again, this is not a complete list, but a representative list.

As many as they wish to have and can afford.  There is no restriction on the number.  Regarding the number you may carry, it is dependent on the state you live in.  Here in Arizona, you can carry as many as you like on your person.  In other states like NY, you have a permit to only carry a specific gun.  In most states there is not a limit.  Only states that have highly restrictive laws limit the number or in the case of Chicago and Washington, DC, do not permit you to carry a gun under any circumstances at all...
