Question
I have a 16 gauge Bolt Action has a wood stock and it was made by Sears Roebuck and Co. The model number for this gun is 14  583.1400. It has a 2 3/4 in barrel.

I was wondering how old might this gun be, and the value of it.

Answer
Hello Chris. Your shotgun was manufactured by Harrington & Richardson around 1945. Harrington & Richardson manufactured the Model 120 in the 1939-1941 era. They began selling these shotguns to Sears and Roebuck during the next few years still under their own name and Model number. After the war, Harrington & Richardson sold the rights to this shotgun to Sears. So, the original H&R Model 120 patent with a few minor changes became the Sears and Roebuck Model 583.1400. As for the value, you can check out some of the online auctions, such as GunsAmerica or GunTraders. I will be surprised if you find one over $100.00. I hope this information helps. Charles Gage
