Ranger 12 gauge over and under model 103-10

Question
I have just acquired this shotgun. It says Ranger over and under 12 gauge model 103-10.
It has a dog on point in the grass etched on both sides and double triggers with a ribbed
barrel with brass rear pin and white front bead. it has 28 inch barrells. I am pretty
sure both are modified choke. On the side of the rib, it says J. J. Jenkins, Santa
Barbara, CA. Here is he question... Is this a Marlin model 90? It does not say Sears on
it anywhere. Was it a Sears product? Is it an Exel 103? Who made this and what is it
worth. Thank you, Steve......by the way, who is this J. J. Jenkins person?

Answer
Hello Steve. Your shotgun is possibly one manufactured by Eastern Arms Co. I know this will not be a popular answer, but Eastern Arms Co. was an independent manufacturer before WWll. Up to that time they did manufacture shotguns under their model Ranger. Sometime before WWll they began making these for Sears and Roebuck, but only put the Ranger name on them. After WWll they did include the Sears name. By this time Eastern Arms Co. was all but forgotten. I did check the pictures of the Marlin 90 and among others, T.Eaton of Canada, Browning, Winchester and LaFever Arms. Non of these had the engravings you mention. There are other companies who manufactured guns for Sears and Roebuck, but these were on the cheap end of the scale. I also did not find among them any over and under shotguns. Any over and under shotgun in good to excellent condition will have a value of $200.00 to $400.00 or even more. This is the opinion I have of your firearm.
As far as who is J.J.Jenkins, I did find some very interesting case work in the records of "The NINETY-SIXTH CONGRESS....SECOND SESSION" "September 15, 1980." "Serial No. 96-83" dealing with the 'ILLEGAL' confiscation of firearms from collector's. Among other petitioner's, included a Mr. J.J.Jenkins. A gun collector himself!! I think this may have been my most interesting question I have had the honor to do an investigation of. I hope this information helps answer your question.
