Question
Charles,
After searching for information, as extensively as I know how, on this Harrington & Richardson, Inc. 6 shot 22 revolver, model # J64901, serial # AX0746xx, its time to turn to the expert. My only question is how many of this model were made? One might assume few were, since the only data found was in Cornell Publications and that merely referred to model 649. No other data was given. Can you help?? Thanks.
Steve
Answer
Hello Steve. I have a few more facts for you. According to BlueBook of Gun Values by Fjestad, you have an H&R Model 649 .22/.22WMR double action revolver manufactured from 1976 through 1985. It came with an additional .22 WMR caliber cylinder. Are you sure which cylinder you have in your revolver? It is very important since a .22 Long Rifle cartridge will fit in either one, but the case will most likely rupture if fired from the .22magnum(WMR)cylinder. The cylinder will have the cartridge size stamped on it. It came with a 5 1/2" or 7 1/2" barrel with walnut grips. I cannot say how many were manufactured, but it was an immediate success, especially since it was a double action. I was operating a sporting goods store in 1977 and bought three for gifts and one for myself. They sold complete for around $89.00 or so. I let mine get away, but my brothers still have theirs. As to how many were made, I would have to say many. As to the exact number, I don't have that information. Hold onto it, because they are becoming harder to find under $175.00 at current auction prices. I hope this helped answer your question and thank you for asking. Charles Gage
