Question
Found a revolver in attic that belonged to grandfather. Looks like it was never used and in a leather holster. Trying to identify the age of the revolver. Not a gun person. It has following info stamped on it: "Colt Police Positive .38
PTFA MFG Co. Hartford Ct, USA. Patent Aug 6 1884, Jun 6 1900, July 4 1905. 180349"
It also came with boxes of bullets.
Do bullets go bad?
Thanks
What is age of weapon
Is it useable today
Would I have to register it to transport it to another location?
Answer
Hello Phil. Your revolver was manufactured in 1928. It can only be determined as safe to fire if checked by a competent and experienced gunsmith.
The question about the age of ammunition and transportation should be directed back to AllExperts. They will assign them to other experts, since I am not an expert in either of these fields.Thank you for asking for me and I hope I helped. Charles Gage
P.s. I wish I knew what line of work your grandfather was in.l.o.l.
