Question
Sir. I am writing you for my father. He has a Stevens Model 940 B. It is a 410 single shot. For the past year we have been trying to find out when this gun would have been made. This gun was his grandfathers and I belive it would be rated as the fairly good. If you can tell us when it might have been made and how much it might be worth it would be very appreciated thank you

Answer
Hello Dustin. The records for Stevens Arms Company were never sequential. They wandered from year to year. This leaves the actual dating of there firearms to only a year range. This model 940B was manufactured sometime before 1950. As to value, there were such a large number made and as a lower priced firearm at the time,it has never found a niche as a collector arm. Pricing would be in the $75.00 to $125.00 range.
For a more accurate assessment, you can contact:
John Callahan

Westfield, MA. 01085
I believe his research fee is only $15.00. He has been recommended by many Stevens firearm owners.
I do hope this information has helped and I thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
