How to care for store rifle

Question
I have a 38-55 Winchester Carbine in great condition and want to keep it that way. How best to store it, care for it and is there a group in New England that I might bring it to for an appraisal and thoughts on maintenance?
Thank you.
Answer
Caring for firearms, particularly in modern climate controlled houses, is not too hard, but it does require some attention.
For long term storage if you weren't going to touch it, you might consider storing it in something like a Bianchi Bag, which would eliminate any possibility of oxidation for the life of the bag specified. You could also go the military route, melt Cosmoline (or its near equivalent) and coat the gun, but this is a pain to clean off later.
For the most part, though, if you store it in a safe with a proper desiccant pack, monitor the humidity, and keep a light coat of oil on the barrel and insides, and outsides the same (or a silicone clothe), you will be doing fine.
Sorry, unfamiliar with gun clubs in New England.
