Possession of Firearm

Question
Hi Doug,
I live in Illinois and have a valid FOID card. My question is: Can I legally have in my possession a handgun registered in another person's name? If I don't currently own a gun, but am legally entitled to have one via FOID, are there any rules to me borrowing a handgun from somebody who also legally owns/registered their weapon? As far as I can tell, the state legislation places limitations on one's ability to purchase, not possess a firearm. I appreciate the advise.
Thank you.
Answer
Colt,
The FOID card in Illinois is required to either possess or acquire a firearm. If you do not have an FOID, you cannot legally possess a firearm in Illinois. If you have an FOID, I don't see why you couldn't borrow your friend's firearm.
Best regards,
Doug
