Question
Walther 3
You were resently asked about a Walther's automatic brought home from WWII. A neighbor (WWII vet) asked me about his Walthers that sounds quite similar. Any info you can give regarding this gun I'll pass on to him. It's marked: "Wafenfabreck, Zeller-Mehlis (Thur.), Walther's Patent Cal. 7.65 m/m, Mod.PP 1940. Serial number is 157408. This comes with a nice holster marked DRGM and a "crossed rifles/wreath" stamp. Other inside holter markings are unreadable from wear. There are two clips but the numbers do not match the gun. Condition is about as excellent as I've seen, a very handsome automatic.
Thanks, Ron
AnswerRon,
If you can check the gun and verify that it has an "Eagle over N" proof mark, it is of wartime manufacture (1940-1945). I simply don't have access to serial number records to be able to get it closer than that.
As far as value, in 98% condition a specimen of this type would be worth around $625. In 95% condition, it drops to about $450 and in 90% it drops to about $350. This valuation is based on the 28th Edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values. The holster and two magazines add approximately $150 to that value.
If the proof mark is a "Crown over N" the values don't change remarkably, but it would be a pre-1940 gun.
Hope this helps you out...
