Question
The St. Lucia National Trust is looking for this cannon to put on display in their historic preserve where two of these guns, as part of a US Army base during World War II, once defended the island against German war ships and pointed at the island of Martinique.
Answer
Hello Julie. All I can tell you is 'start fishin'.I found a little known fact among museum curator's that you may not be aware of. In a very musty dungeon( basement),most museums have an over abundance of precious articles ready to display when other items begin to bore sightseers. This means that these items must go.Some are sold and some are sent to other museums. My aunt(deceased) was the curator of the Five Civilized Tribes Museum at Okmulgee,Oklahoma when I was a boy. She let us look at everything in the basement and when we asked what would be done with the items there, she told us that most would never be seen and may just deteriorate to a non-presentable state and would be thrown away. Your St.Lucia National Trust may not be able to purchase your cannon. But they may be able to find one that is deteriorating from lack of public interest. Here is a web site I found. www.cdsg.org/reprint%20PDFs/survive.pdf and a name I found there: Terrance McGovern 1717 ForestLane, McLean,VA 22101 USA Home Phone (703)538-5403 or Work (703)934-3661.
I hope this helps and thank you for asking for me.Charles Gage
