Question
QUESTION: Follow up: I wanted to mention that this Mossberg is a 26" plain barrel Imp Cyl nothing special about it, standard furniture. When I bought it I thought the T Might stand for Trap grade since it had the Imp Cyl but now I'm thinking not.

ANSWER: There is a New Haven model 600ct.
It fits that description.
Its plainer version of the model 500.
It sold for about 25% less.
C=20 gauge.
the t on that line was a plain barrel (3 differnt plain F, m, ic)

In the 500 line the is alway=Trap
All are 12 gauge.

There was no 500ct

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: This one is a Mossberg 500CT and it is a 20 ga. Was made in New Haven, Conn. It is a plain barrel Imp. Cyl. fixed choke so I assume it is a trap model.
here is one I found for sale just like it. Of course mine is in like new condition much nicer than this one that has a full choke and longer barrel.

Answer

Trap models had Monti Carlo stocks and a Simmon Olympic Hi-Rib barrel.
All were 12 ga. Those all 2 operating rod models.
All trap guns are 12 gauge regardless of maker.
The rules of the game require 12 gauge.
Trap uses modified or full choke.

The Official History
doesn't mention a 500CT

If it looks exactly that you have a early single operating rod model 500c. It was made between 1963 & 1970.
Should be a 28" Full choke, 26" IC or Modified plain barrel bead sight.

It says New Haven not North Haven where it was built?
The 20 ga did not start production offically untill 1963.
Mossberg moved from New Haven to North Haven in July of 1962.
Construction of I-91 made them move.
The must mean the same as it did on later New Haven Brand 600CT.
Just a plain fixed choke barrel.

I would run it past Victor Havlin.

That might be real real early one.

If it is real early one don't use it.
It may become collectable.
Single op rod guns tend to go out sink with age & use.
They start dropping loaded shells on the ground instead
of putting it into the chamber.
I have 500B with that problem.
Its why they went to 2 op rods.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
