My Browning 30-06 has serial number 97733 M71.....What would the model and date of this weapon be?

Hello Jerry. Your BAR was manufactured in 1971. As to the model, there were five  manufactured in that year. These were as follows:
Grade I = Plain smooth receiver, blued steel
Grade II = Modest engraving of big game animal head on each side of receiver, blued steel.(Most were sold in this grade)
Grade III = More elaborate engraving of antelope and deer game scenes etched on grayed steel receiver. Checkered walnut stock.
Grade IV = Engraved satin finished receiver.Big game animal scenes.Checkered walnut stock.
Grade V = Very elaborate engraving with gold inlays.
