Question
Sir,
I am the recent new owner of a Combat Commander. I am an experienced pistol shooter, but not with 1911's. The trouble is in the accuracy - 7 yrds is a ragged hole, 10 yards is a baseball size group, but 15 yrds is a dinner plate. I do not know the history of this gun. Anything you can offer is appreciated. Thanks, Stan
Answer
A gun in only as accurate as the person holding it. To tell if it is you or gun you have to secure gun and test fire or have another good shooter and see if they get same pattern you do. Not sure how long barrel is but shorter barrels as less accurate then longer barrels.
Make sure you shoot short distance, in a supported position with sand bags and a table so you can get a nice small shot group, if you were to put this gun in a vice and pull trigger, the bullets should go in almost the same hole at seven yards. Sounds more like a trigger pull issue with you than the gun.
