Question
I have a WWII Colt 1911 that has been refurbished. I have shot some Federal HST 45 +P ammo without any problems. I would like to use this ammo when carrying my 45 but I hear stories about problems. Please advise.
Answer
I hear the same stories, when you say refurbished is that a new barrel, new spring? I would go to colt website and ask them, they know best since they see what neg has come from this. I think they could give you a better and more informed answer.
I don't think it will matter much and it anything it would take several hundred or thousands of rounds, not to many shoot that much. I would shoot reg loads for most training and then just a mag or so to ensure feeding and handling of gun. I am thinking that the worse that can happen is may hurt the barrel over time, no real neg affect, unless it cracks or flares and it may cause stress fractures on the slide from the additional hot load that could over time split or flare the slide. If you clean and inspect regularly you should see these before they become a malfunction problem. These are just best guesses, but colt may have to some facts that I am not aware of.
