Baretta .25 Jetfire

Question
I have a Baretta .25 Jetfire 950 handgun I purchased in 1980. Since that time the gun has mostly gathered dust. Recently I tried using it and discovered it has lost its semi-automatic feature. With the clip fully loaded and one bullet in the chamber, I now must manually pull the hammer back to fire each bullet. The emptied cartridges do not auto-eject.
I have little experience with guns, so I抦 wondering if I am shooting it incorrectly or if there is a problem with the gun. If there is a problem with the gun, is this something I can easily fix myself, e.g., simply replace a broken part with a new part?
Answer
If you can manually pull the hammer back and it stays, then when you fire the gun the slide should do the same thing. It may be worn down and not pushing the hammer down far enough to lock it into a cocked position.
Guns are mechanical and normally pretty easy to figure out, just go slow and go step by step on what happens, when. So pull the slide back slowly and try and see why it is not locking the hammer back, make sure the gun is not on safe, since that will prevent the hammer from locking back on some guns.
I would take to local gun shop, the guys that work there are normally gun guys and they may be able to tell you want is going on.
