High Standard Double Nine Longhorn Revolver

Question
I have a Nine shot revolver, 5-1/2 barrel, W-100, #850-481 that belonged to my grandfather. My mother said it was purchased in the 1940's. I would like to find the manufacture date of this if possible. I will never sell it,but would like to know the value,if possible.

Hello Dale McGill.Your High Standard Double Nine revolver was manufactured first in 1958. It was classified as the model W-100.It was called the Double Nine for the double action and 9 shot cylinder. It did come with the 5 1/2 inch barrel as you describe. It was a Western style with an aluminum frame.Sears also sold this revolver as the Ranger Model 90 and later as the Ranger DeLux. Here are the dates of release on the following models:
W-100 1958; W-101 1959; W-102 1960; W-103 late 1960-early 1961; W-104 Longhorn,Posse and Natchez.The Longhorn had a 9 1/2inch barrel,thus the name 'Longhorn'.The Posse had a 3 1/2 inch barrel and the Natchez had a 4 1/2 inch barrel with Birds-head grips; W-105 1970 Hombre,Durango and Marshal with walnut grips; and the W-106 series with a steel frame that could handle magnum loads and was the first model to have interchangeable cylinders. The High Sierra model had an octagon barrel. As far as value, in 80-90% condition would place it between $150 and $350. I hope this answers your questions and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
