Question
sir, i have an old receipt dated in 1979 and i don't know if the receipt is for a pistol or rifle. i wonder if you can help me identify if it is a pistol or rifle. The only info on that receipt is a stock number K-1458 and the following: Browning 22 AJ.GRI .22lr #08105RN146 $169.96
Answer
Older guns are not my area, but perhaps I can point you in the right direction. The stock # will the store's internal cataloging system and won't tell you anything about the gun. I have not heard of, and cannot find anything in a search of a Browning "AJ.GRI" and wonder if that is an abbreviation for some feature on the gun.
Pay-dirt, however, may be the number you have listed, which seems to be a serial number. If you contact Browning with your dilemma and tell them the number, they should be able to run it for you and let you know precisely what it was. They may or may not do this for you over the phone. They may require a letter fee, and charge you a small fee to sent you a letter with detailed information about the model of gun and date of manufacture.
Good luck.
