I was just wondering if there are any laws in illinos aganist using or carrying a baton around for personl safety???

Hi Samantha.

Some states treat batons, clubs, bats, knives, stun guns, and sometimes even pepper spray as concealed weapons. In some cases these are banned and in other cases they are allowed but only by permit. Gun permits may cover these but sometimes a separate permit is required. When obtaining a permit you may have to take special training for use of batons.

You might also try calling your local, county, or state police office and they can answer the question for you.

Even if you are allowed to carry a baton I would highly recommend taking some training first and consider the other alternatives. Batons are not that simple to carry and use properly and if you are not trained you could end up having the baton taken from you and used against you. If your life is in danger then a firearm may be a better choice, and if the circumstances are less than lethal then you may be better off with mace or avoidance.

If the law prevents you from having a firearm then you may run into similar trouble with a baton.
