Question
Rick, I just discovered my Ithaca was manufactured in 1945, based on a reply by Sid Lark to another question. I would like to modify the pistol by adding a beavertail grip safety, possibly a new slide and a magazine well. I would also like to get teh feed ramp polished and add some new sights. What would you recommend? The frame shows normal wear & tear for a pistol this old and the action seems to be all right.
Thanks in advance.
Ed
Answer
When you say modify, you can either send away and have it done or buy the parts and do it yourself, keep the receipts in case of fitting problems, but most 1911 are easily changed modified and upgraded. Whatever you do is personal choice. Most 1911 owners have lots of extra parts from changing over time, so try what you like, shoot is and then decide what to keep and what to change.
