Question
Dear Sir,
After reading your answer as follows: "The H&R Handy gun is a considered to be a NFA III AOW (Any Other Weapon) firearm. It requires that the owner file paperwork with the BATF and purchase a transfer stamp for the particular firearm. This must all happen prior to the actual purchase. You cannot legally purchase one of these firearms without the transfer paperwork in hand.
Regarding their legality, the transfer can be done under federal law as long as your state of residence permits individual ownership of a class 3 firearm. Since you did not tell me where you live, I can't say if class 3 firearms ownership is permitted where you live or not. Also, the transfer must occur using an FFL/SOT Class 2 or Class 3 dealer"
My Question, I live in Michigan. What do I need in order to purchase from a private seller or how do I find out what is required, out side of a purchase permit issued by the Sherrif's Dept.?
Thanks
Answer
Harvey,
Michigan does permit ownership of short barrel shotguns by private citizens if purchased through a FFL/SOT Class 2 or Class 3 dealer only. You cannot purchase directly from a private seller. I would contact any Class 3 dealer in your area. They should be able to walk you through the process to purchase.
Best regards,
Doug
