missing gun

Question
I recently discovered that I am missing a small hand gun.
I last saw it a week ago. Also while looking I also see that I am missing a gun that I last saw about 10 years ago.
Q:How can I report these ? Missing or Stolen ?
Since they are gone, and I did not sell or loan them , they are most probably stolen.
Missing sounds careless, and I worry about being accused of being careless with any gun.
But I also don't want to file a false report claiming they were stolen, when I can't prove they were.

If you are an FFL dealer, you must report the missing guns to ATF. If you are an individual, I don't know of any laws governing that, but you should report it to your local law enforcement, or if you're not in a town, then to the county sheriff. They should get the guns listed as stolen. There then could be a slght chance of recovery.
