Savage 22 pump

Question
I have a Savage 22(S, L, and LR) pump. The pat date is Dec 25th 1906. It appears to be clip fed but all the pics I find show like weapons with a tube mag under the barrel. Mine has a much shorted tube and has an opening under the receiver that looks like a clip would slide into the receiver and lock against the front of the trigger guard. Can you please tell me everything you know about this weapon? It is not perfect but has no rust and no dings or mars on either the wood or metal areas. The pump action is very smooth. Thank you very much, John Gardiner
Answer
Hello John. Your Savage rifle is a model 1909. It was manufactured from 1909 to 1915. Some call it a model 1906 due to the patent date of Dec 25,1906, but Savage did not make a model 1906. Yes, it is a clip magazine fed rifle and the short tube is for the pump-action to slide on. Here are the names of two parts companies that list the clip-magazine for sale. They are:
Numrich Gun Parts ( your part # 1053790 )
Bob's Gun Shop ( clip #4 for 1903-1906-1909 ). Just google these companies and you can order the part from them. If they are not in stock, they might be able to direct you to another parts warehouse. I hope this answers your questions and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
