Question
I am considering whether to purchase a Taurus 22 cal stainless revolver(94SS5). I have read mixed reviews as to quality & reliability however more have been positive than negative. I have been unable to find one to shoot or ask anyone that owns one.
Answer
Years ago I had an original Model 94 .22 LR. If I had any complaint, it was just that this full-sized .357-framed gun with 6" barrel was bored for a .22, and so had a substantial amount of steel in it, and thus was MUCH HEAVIER than the comparable gun chambered in .357.
Besides, weight, I can't imagine what would be "wrong" with the the gun. The .22 is a mild cartridge, and Taurus and a life-time repair policy, which I doubt you would ever have to invoke.
As the revolver market goes, I've not been a big fan of S&W's quality control in the last few years, and I like the Tauruses a great deal. I can't really see a down-side in getting one if a .22 revolver is what you want.
Best to you.
