M1- Carbine

Question
Dear Sir,
My question is in regard to a Universal M1 Carbine. I know all the bad press on the Universals, but it was my dads and I have polished the ramp, replaced the slide with a tempered steel unit and it is a 2nd Gen. model. I want to add a solder on compensator and cut the barrel to make the combined length 16 and 1/8. My question is will the shortened length and reduced recoil effect feed operation. Thanks in advance.
Answer
If you read my bio, my expertise is in modern weapons and tactics. I have no direct experience with that gun. In theory and on principle, it should make no difference. Then again, in theory and on principle, mounting a tactical light to a Glock 22 should make no difference either, but on that particular model it does.
It may be worth a try, but if I were you, I think I'd keep looking to find someone who has specific experience with modifying old guns such as the M1 carbine. Good luck.
