Question
I have a Browning 16 gauge that I inherited from my Dad and serial number is A14740. This in on the left side of receiver. It has the lever that blocks the shells also on left side that I understand only the FN manufacture models , not Remmington, had. Barrell says BROWNING ARMS COMPANY ST LOUIS MD. Below that is says SPECIAL STEEL 16 GUAGE SHELLS 2 3/4". Can you tell me anything about it. Thank You...Michael

Answer
Hello Michael Humphrey. Your serial number and St.Louis,MO. address corresponds to a Belgium made shotgun. The FN logo should be on the original butt plate. So many have been changed due to damage or just wear and tear. However, it is still an FN. From what I have gathered, your Browning was manufactured in 1924. The "A" in front of the serial number was confusing me until I ran across an article that explained, in a very detailed way, A=16 Gauge. AS far as a value, you can check that for yourself at GUNSAMERICA.com; AUCTIONARMS.com; GUNBROKER.com; or GUNSINTERNATIONAL.com. I hope this sheds some light on your subject and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
