Question
how do i look up the serial number of my assault rifle to make sure it is pre 1994 gun ban.
Answer
You have to contact the mfg. Serial numbers are not standardized, although if you look around on the web, you may find some website that has compiled such information.
Why does it matter, though. The Clinton ban sunset in 2004 and is no longer binding. On the day it expired, a lot of AR owners celebrated by taking their guns that were built during to their local smiths to have them fitted with collapsible stocks, flash suppressors, and some of them even to have the front sight tower replaced for one with a bayonet lug.
Full capacity magazines that went for hundreds of dollars when the ban was in effect were on store shelves for $20. There was a flood of magazines stamped with "For Govn't & LE use only," now a footnote to history because the capacity restriction was no longer applicable.
Unless you live in an area that locally extended the ban, the 94 ban is irrelevant to anything you want to do to the gun (NFA rules still apply).
