Question
I was given a old family double barrel Ranger shotgun. I cant tell what year or model. My guess is Stevens 311 or 5100.I think it was purchased in the 60s. It reads on the top of the barrels,Selected Forged steel and Proof tested 12 gauge. Under the trigger there is a little circle with T7 stamped in it.Where it breaks for loading there are assembly #s x85568.If you could help with any information that would be great. Thanks Bill
Answer
Bill,
What you have is a Stevens 311. The Ranger model number was 400. The physical description of the gun matches what it should be as well. The little circle with the letter/number combination indicates the year of manufacture. Yours was made in 1966. In terms of value, depending on the condition, it might be worth between $200-$250. Some out there have attempted to sell them for something in the $400 range, again depending on condition. Your mileage may vary...
Overall these are pretty nice shooters if they are in good condition and the action is still functional. They aren't especially rare though as no 'store brand' guns are really collectable since there were so many of them made...
Hope this helps you out...
