Question
i have 2 springfeild 22 rifles model#85 ranger & model 53-b can you tell me anything about them
Answer
Randy,
I am not super familiar with these, but as I understand the situation, these were originally made my Stevens. They were called 'Springfield' or 'Stevens-Springfield' and were made in between 1938 and 1968. Stevens was bought by Savage in 1920 but continued to manufacture guns under the Stevens name until sometime around 1946. The Springfield 85 was box magazine fed while the Springfield 87 was fed with a tubular magazine. The Model 87 was basically the same guns as the Savage Model 6. In good to excellent condition, it might be worth $85 to $100 at most.
In terms of the Model 53-B, that model was a bolt action single shot rifle. I believe it was manufactured from 1938-1946 or so. Again, in good to excellent condition, maybe $75-$90 would be the value.
Hope this helps you out...
Doug
